Merv
Second draft dramatic feature
Writer | Director Simonee Chichester
Merv is entering the next phase of his life. He’s turning sixty, he’s accepted a severance package from his longtime position and he’s on a job hunt. But when the sobering reality of a youth obsessed job market sets in and his wife of thirty-seven years suddenly dies, Merv’s problems go from bad to worse. Trying to pick-up the pieces alongside his disgruntled daughter, Merv is stuck in a rut: He’s a failure as a father, widowed, jobless, in debt and depressed. When Merv meets the infectious enthusiast, Jaime, whom always sees the glass half full, things begin to change. Merv comes out of his shell, takes an understated job as a pool boy and forms a relationship with his new neighbour, Steph. She’s an unpredictable brassy woman who challenges his sense of adventure and desire. Now in his third act, Merv discovers an existence of possibility and passion, where taking chances has its benefits. Merv is an inspiring, coming of age story, with unlikely heroes, understated elements of humour and poignancy.
